Newsletter - August 2007

There is great excitement here as this is the last newsletter before the very first Fobbles Embroidery & Beadwork Cruise sets sail! We will sail from Newcastle via Kirkwall to Norway, visiting the Fjords and glaciers, as well as taking some spectacular trips. We will have the added bonus of enjoying Hardanger and Beadwork classes along the way! A full report in the September newsletter!

We had the first Fobbles ‘Get Together' days last Saturday and everyone went away feeling very pleased as they had managed to complete some of their projects and also enjoyed the chat and delicious lunch. Make a date in your diary for the next one on September 15th 2007. Please remember that lunches need to booked in advance. If you need directions please give us a call on 019467 24764.

We will be starting our Beadwork For Beginners classes on Tuesday morning, September 25th. These classes are for complete beginners so if you would like to have a go get in touch now as places are limited. We are also starting Evening Classes for Beaders, these also start on Tuesday September 25th, the evenings are for people who have some experience already. Once you gain the basic knowledge of beading you will be able to complete all types of interesting projects for either yourself or as gifts for friends.

We have had a few informal UFO afternoons recently. A great chance to catch up on some of your UnFinished Objects amongst like-minded folk as well as seeing what everyone else is stitching/beading/knitting/crocheting……Next one is on Thursday 20th September starting at 1.30pm. Everyone welcome.

Away With The Fairies Beadwork Retreat at Muncaster Castle with tutor Jill Devon: we have a couple of places left on this owing to a cancellation. 29 October – 1 November. Please get in touch if you are interested, either as a resident or a day person.

Rapunzel Beading Workshop with Jenny Boyle on Saturday 3rd November.

We are holding another Beaded Tassel Retreat at Muncaster Castle from 20th – 25th April 2008 with Elaine Peel. This is aimed at those who have not done a large beaded tassel with Elaine before, although you are still welcome if you have – you can do something more complicated! These events hold lots of surprises as well as a chance to meet new like-minded friends. We are now taking bookings and expect places to be taken up quickly.

We are pleased to announce that we are now stocking several stitching and beading magazines. These are available on our website, by mail-order, telephone or in person! In stock, we have current issues of Bead (British bi-monthly), Patchwork & Quilting (British, monthly), Classic Inspirations (Australian, quarterly), Classic Stitches (British, monthly), Vogue Knitting (quarterly), Interweave Knits (USA, monthly, I think). Also due with the next available issue are Bead & Button, Beadwork, & Jill Oxton's Cross stitch & Beading. If you would like any of the magazines on a regular basis, please let us know so that we can increase our orders as necessary – we wouldn't want anyone to miss out! We will be able to send the next issue on to you or let you know when it is in stock for you to collect.

Other New Products this month include:

See-through Bobbin Organiser: Are you always spending time looking for that particular bobbin or reel of Nymo thread that you know you have used before but can not find? We now have some very useful plastic storage boxes, with lids, which your threads will fit in perfectly and the colour can be seen at a glance. Store 18 bobbins and get organised for £2.35 each!

For those tiny details treat yourself to a Hands-Free Magnifier. These are light- weight and hang comfortably around your neck leaving you free to do your needlework or beading. £4.70.

From Dilys Designs we have Squashy Box kits and Hex-Etui Box kits, both retailing at £5.99. These kits contain cardboard cut-outs and clear instructions for amking up a wonderful box to store your treasures! You do need to supply your own fabrics, wadding and threads.

New Patchwork fabrics will be arriving in early September with more due in late September……these will be brand new, just released fabrics, including some Christmas fabrics……..exciting times!!!!! Husbands have been very busy building custom-made shelving to fit the bolts of fabric and they are going to look stunning in our new Display Area!! The paint is drying as I write…………….if you would like to come and see this fabulous sight do give us a ring and arrange a time to come and browse.

We have had another delivery of Laurel Burch bags and they seem to be going as soon as they are unwrapped!!! Some new designs have now been added to the website.

New beads and findings are being added regularly, although most do not make it onto the website, please do give us a ring and let us know what you are looking for, if we do not have it in stock we can try and get it for you.

Well, I'm off to pack for The Cruise now!
