Newsletter - August 2006

Welcome to the first Fobbles newsletter! Through these newsletters we will keep you informed of new products, forthcoming events and any interesting snippets. Our website is in its infancy but add us to your favourites and visit us regularly, as we will be adding fresh information all the time.

We have had a busy time these last few weeks! Irene Coulthard had everyone enthralled with her wonderful Embroidered Calico Gardens. Ladies travelled from far and wide to join her on a two day workshop at Muncaster Castle. This was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone and all went away with some exciting projects to finish.

Our next major event was the Woolfest at Cockermouth. This was a two day show where Crafts people from all over northern Europe had stands. Products were mainly wool associated and were very varied and unusual, providing a wealth of colour and texture. We were showcasing the Australian Kaalund Yarns which proved to be very popular both for their wonderful texture and vibrant colours. We were very excited, as we launched our first Exclusive Fobbles Embroidery Kit, which we had designed for us by Jenny Burns, using the Kaalund silk threads. This looks absolutely gorgeous and brought many admiring comments. See our What's New Page for more details. It was a very hot and long two days, but we really enjoyed them, and it was a chance to meet old friends and to make many new ones!

Look out on the site for Kates Kloths. This is a unique range of hand dyed variegated threads and fabrics which should inspire embroiderers of all abilities. The threads have wonderful blended colours and as they are hand dyed, and yarn specifications tend to vary slightly it is recommended that threads for one project are purchased together. The threads may be used for many types of embroidery including cross stitch, freestyle, hardanger, canvas work and any other form of experimental embroidery. There is an extensive range of threads, ribbons and accessories. Look out for future workshops with Kathryn Slaughter, the creator of these amazing products.

Brenda Keyes from The Sampler Company has always been a favourite with us and we can now supply all the charts available from the Sampler Company including those not displayed on the website.

Crewel work enthusiasts out there will know Phillipa Turnbull from The Crewel Work Company and her impressive traditional British wool embroidery designs. We are proud to announce that we stock a number of Phillipa's kits and can order any others from her extensive range. The kits contain specially woven Jacobean Linen Twill, with the outline already printed, Appleton's 2ply wools, crewel needle, detailed stitch chart and step by step illustrated instructions. Also included in the kit is 'The Essential Guide for Newcomers to Crewel Embroidery' and a full colour brochure. These come supplied in a deluxe carrier, with a photo on the front and would make a beautiful present as well as being a delight to do for yourself. Watch out for classes with Phillipa next year!!

If you haven't already looked, check out our wonderful Embroidery and Beading Cruise on the BRAEMAR next September 2007. See our events page. This is booking up very quickly so if you are interested contact us for details.

Another exciting event in 2007 is a Master Class in Needlework Design & Colour with Sally Scott Aiton, designer and creator of Cobweb Designs. This will be held at Muncaster Castle in April 2007. This promises to be a spectacular inspirational week in the peaceful surroundings of Muncaster, suitable for all skill levels, everyone will leave with more than they arrived with! More details on the events page.

Finally, for all beaders out there don't forget our Beadwork Retreat in October 2006 with Jill Devon. This will be a wonderful opportunity to have a lovely rest, in glorious surroundings, with people of similar interests, and go home with new techniques and ideas.

Enjoy the rest of the summer,
Happy Beading & Stitching

Beverley and Edna
